A great old booklet has been made available online that tells the story of Royal Enfield's contribution to the British war effort between 1939-1945. Cool photos of factory work and an interesting look into underground factory life. Via Jorge Pullin and David Blasco.
Nice job with the pictures, Chris. It really startles an American, whose image of World War II is always a picture with a Jeep. For the Brits, "mechanized" meant, mostly, motorcycles. It is a proud moment in history. Peculiar. Nostalgic. Gallant. Who could not fancy going 60 mph in a 30 mph world, at government expense? All the poetry of war with none of the harsh reality, I suppose.
