BSA Thunderbolt in Chris Daughtry Video

Free-association searching YouTube (oh what you don't occasionally do that?), I found this music video by Chris Daughtry "Start of Something Good" that stars a 1970(?) BSA Thunderbolt. I'm not sure the year, but it really is the star of the show. Once it comes in to view, you can't wait for it to have another scene. During the video a young guy possibly changes a fouled spark plug. Who knows, but in the end, it serves it's purpose - he gets the girl. Do you know the year? Post a comment and tell us.

You'll watch this a few times. Guaranteed. Maybe just to hear the voice, but definitely to see the shots of vintage motorcycles flying by only to be stopped in super slo-mo. You might even try and write down some of the thoughts. But in the end, you'll get off your seat and go do the thing you know you should do.

Cale Glendening wants you to wake up, be more creative, and live. That's the inspiration and message of this wonderfully shot short film, Blood & Oil.

Custom Laser Death BSA

Over at Bike Exif you can see the custom Laser-Death BSA, cobbled together over time by artist Maxwell Paternoster from the CorpsesFromHell blog. I always loved this bike because of its character and patina. And there is something about the photos of the bike on display in the house that is very comforting. 

Walking Dead's Daryl Rides a Triumph...ish

The Walking Dead is back. If you're a fan of the show, you may be interested to know Daryl Dixon rides a vintage Triumph chopper motorcycle. Actually it's a Yamaha XS650 frame with a 1965-1970 Triumph Bonneville engine. The website EatSleepRide reports that prior to the fame and fortune acting has brought him, actor Norman Reedus regularly spun wrenches at a local motorcycle shop which served him as an income and soul food. Bits and pieces of the bike have changed through the 3 seasons, but the British engine and Japanese frame configuration remains the same.

The photos below show a Reedus astride his own Hammarhead Jack Pine Triumph not seen on the show.

Insomnia

The motorcycles are Royal Enfields. The short film is "Insomnia" shot in the United Arab Emirates and is directed by Marco Möller, founder at Möto. The lead bike is a custom with a re-positioned swingarm for stretch and a ton of cool detail. The other is a "Desert Storm" military model C5. It takes a full 3 minutes and 15 seconds until the viewer gets to see the riding shot, though, it's worth it. I've included screenshots below because they go by too fast to appreciate in the film. Excellent imagery, a little cheesy at times, but the motorcycles and gear (and the girl) make it a decent escape if you're locked behind a desk today...

Photos from the Road

We worked a lot while we were on the road, but we did get some riding in. One highlight was meeting my friend David Blasco of the renowned RoyalEnfields.com blog. I rode out to have lunch with him and his lovely wife, Bonnie. They're such great people and I loved swapping Enfield stories and hearing about their other adventures in the blogosphere.

When we got back, Hudson (my 5 yr old) and I wanted to spend some quality time working on the Enfield. I confess I sort of gerry-rigged a setup to tighten a very sloppy primary chain. I used a rubber caster cup. Don't judge me. Hudson pointed out my hands were getting dirty and I told him that a long time ago, someone taught me never to be afraid to get your hands dirty when you work. Nothing is so pointless as four people standing around staring at an unsolved problem because no one wants to get grease under their nails.  He said he wanted to "put it back together" so I let him do the wrenching. There's no place like home.
