Just yesterday I was thinking, "I wonder when those Blitz guys are going to do another film." No lie.
And here it is...

Goodbye Helmet
The other day I was riding along and suddenly I have no shifter. I pulled over, walked for a couple miles to see where it fell off - couldn't find it anywhere. I walk my bike over to the grocery parking lot and call the tow truck. We load up the bike, have some interesting conversation, drive off. I'm a dummy. I left my helmet in the lot right in a corner where I'd gently set it down. Once I realized I didn't have it with me, I shot back over and it was gone. Vintage helmet, great condition, with the most perfect fit and exquisite cue-ball ivory color that I'd searched for for months. My Halcyon goggles were not cheap either. Thanks jerkface.

Motorcycle Helmet of the Apocalypse
I shot these photos of my office mate and fellow artist Josh Jay, who sculpted and detailed this amazing replica helmet from the post-apocalyptic video game Fallout 3. I think this would be ideal for cold-weather riding, don't you? It even comes with headlights. So, why can't we get helmets designed like these for riding motorcycles??
...and don't say because they're not safe due to limited visibility, odd angles or something else ridiculously practical.
Update: Here are the photos of Josh's process from Pepakura model to finished helmet:
Set 1 | Set 2
Also, if you're looking for more geek-inspired head protection (from Tatooine sandstorms for example), check out this Tosche Station Trucker hat from TK409.com for $20 shipped.
"Power Converters not included."

Leatherface
I like helmets and masks, I don't think that's a secret. The Ukrainian workshop called Bob Basset is full of artistic geniuses. Petrov and his group have done these leather masks for several years and are now showing up on the fashion catwalks. I wish I would have had one of these leather mask-helmets all through elementary school because I would have worn it everyday.
And I mean in the classroom.
Imagine if C-3PO or Darth Vader and the Sandpeople had been designed for some Victorian, nuclear apocalypse. That's what these look like. There's currently one on eBay. Click links for tons more examples of Petrov's work.
I wonder if I could make one of these for riding? Or time travel?

Vintage British Motorcycle Training Film for Squares
Square Tom on a Matchless vs his Rocker friend on a Triumph battle it out in this old moto safety film. Lotsa cool stuff in this one. Who will make it to the finish line first? Also, the old way of signaling for a stop looks like you're wafting away your body odor. Glad we evolved on that one.
